DURANGO, CO- The Cougars headed south to take on Fort Lewis in Durango on Saturday. The Skyhawks came away with a 87-58 victory led by an impressive overall team effort.
HOW IT HAPPENED- Nic Ziel got his team's scoring started with a layup and Ross Williams drilled a three to continue his excellent shooting. The Skyhawks continued to put up points, but Jason Gallant and DJ McDonald connected from deep to pull the Cougars within 10.
Isaiah Alanzo hit consecutive jumpers and Williams hit another three to tighten the gap. Williams continued his excellent half as he nailed a jumper and McDonald picked up a layup. However, the Skyhawks offense was efficient and had them up 46-26 headed to half.
Gallant got the Cougars offense going to start the second half, hitting a jumper and the subsequent free throw as he was fouled while shooting. Williams hit back-to-back three-pointers to cut into the deficit with 10:30 remaining.
Zeil converted a three-point play with a layup and free throw with 4:40 remaining. Gallant closed the game well, connecting from beyond the arc and hitting several jumpers to score seven of the Cougars last 10 points. Christian St. Germain hit a late three, but the Skyhawks claimed the win by a score of 87-58.
COUGARS LEADERS:
Ross Williams paced the Cougars with 18 points and Jason Gallant dropped 16. Williams and McDonald had five rebounds respectively, and McDonald picked up four assists.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- The Cougars finished with nine three pointers, including five from Williams
- Colorado Christian had 22 points in the paint
- The Cougars had 16 bench points on the night
UP NEXT- The Cougars will return to the CCU Event Center on December 14 at 7p.m. to take on Metropolitan State University Denver.
