Cougars Victorious on Senior Day

LAKEWOOD, CO – On the day that the Cougars honored the seniors during opening ceremonies a senior was the one who helped the Cougars take the win 1-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

A defensive and physical matchup, two teams were back and forth most of the first half, the Cougars had 10 shots in the first half while Black Hills State had six shots. The Cougars scored in the 42nd minute as Brook-lyn Shultz made a run through the defensive line and received a beautiful pass from senior Bridgette Johnson, Shultz made a move and buried the shot in the back left side of the net.

In the second half both teams had opportunities as Black Hills State had two shots and the Cougars had eight, two being on goal and one going off the cross bar off the foot of Emie Peterson. The teams could not find the back of the net in the second half and the game ended in a Cougars victory.

COUGAR LEADERS: Brook-lyn Shultz had four shots, two being on goal and one finding the net, Abby Swanda and Saige Stock both had three shots as well.

In goal Ireland VanDyke started the game for the Cougars and made four saves. Ashleigh Maguire played the second half and combined with VanDyke for the shutout.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE

The Cougars had a 4-0 corner kick advantage.

The Cougars outshot the Yellow Jackets 18 to 8.

Both teams had four saves.

UP NEXT: The Cougars are back in action on Sunday, March 21 as they host Colorado School of Mines with a 1:00 p.m. scheduled kick-off.
