Early Goal Downs Cougars

LAKEWOOD, CO – The Cougars and Orediggers battled it out in the chilly weather as snow fell in increments throughout the match. A defensive battle, Colorado School of Mines scored early and locked down defensively to take the 1-0 win over the Cougars.

HOW IT HAPPENED: Colorado School of Mines came out firing early as they pushed the defensive line of the Cougars back, the pressure culminated into a goal for the Orediggers, as a shot from the edge of the box was saved by keeper Ireland VanDyke, the deflection landed at the foot of an Orediggers attacker who's shot deflected off the keeper and into the goal.

Both teams continued attacking through the game, with the Cougars getting eight shots off including three on goal, the Cougars also had four corner kicks in the first half as they continued to press the Colorado School of Mines defense. The Cougars made sure the opposing keeper was paying attention with multiple shots from 18-25 yards from the goal.

COUGAR LEADERS: Saige Stock had three shots including two on goal, Abby Swanda also had a shot on goal, Taya Starnes had two shots as well.

In goal Ireland VanDyke played the entire game and had six saves including five in the first half.
