GUNNISON, CO – The Cougars were back in action this afternoon after not playing last weekend as they traveled to Gunnison to take on Western Colorado. A game full of offense the Cougars fell to the Mountaineers 3-1.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Cougars started off hot, firing three shots in the first few minutes of the game with two of the shots being on goal. Western Colorado was the team that was able to capitalize, with their first two shots finding the back of the net as the Mountaineers took a two goal lead less than 20 minutes into the game.
Colorado Christian came out strong in the second half, as Kiana Fen scored in the 48th minute off a shot deflection that came from Bridgette Johnson. The Cougars had four more shots in the next five minutes but none of the shots challenged the keeper as it remained a one score affair.
The Cougars continued firing shots towards goal, with 12 total shots in the half but it was the Mountaineers who scored once again off a CCU own goal. Despite a strong shooting performance by the Cougars the Mountaineers held on for the win.
COUGAR LEADERS: Saige Stock had seven shots including three on goal, Bridgette Johnson had three shots, two of them being on goal, and Kiana Fen scored the Cougars only goal, which was her first of the season.
In net Ireland VanDyke started the game, freshman Alana Lopp got her first collegiate action and recorded her first two saves while playing 73 minutes.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE

- The Cougars outshot the Mountaineers 17-11 including 6-5 shots on goal.
- With both of the Lopp sisters playing it marks the first time since the 2018 season that the Cougars have had a pair of sisters play in the same game.
