DURANGO, CO – Things are really starting to come together for the Colorado Christian volleyball squad.
The Cougars have won five of their last six matches now after posting a pair of wins in a RMAC Pod hosted by Fort Lewis on Saturday after beating Chadron State and the Skyhawks.
Colorado Christian has won nine straight sets during their winning ways.
Colorado Christian 3, Chadron State 0 (25-17, 25-23, 25-14)
A strong service game and timely scoring were key factors for the Cougars in their opening match.
Colorado Christian tallied 10 service aces while not allowing the Eagles to register any. Meanwhile the Cougars never trailed in the first set and put together the key finish in the second set en route to the sweep.
In the opening set the Cougars jumped out to a 7-3 lead before Chadron State rallied within 14-13 and 15-14 but never took the lead. The closing points belonged to Colorado Christian as they scored seven of the last eight points in the frame.
A tightly played second stanza saw the lead change hands five times with five ties. The Cougars looked to be in control at 16-9 but Chadron State rallied back. However, the Eagles never got closer than a single point as Colorado Christian finished the set on a Chadron State service error. In the final set Colorado Christian nudged ahead as they doubled up their lead at 16-8 and 20-10 as they swept their first contest of the day.
Alli Douglass had a team high eight kills while Jacey Johnson and Kylar Raymond each notched seven to aid in the Cougar win. Maddie Burns directed the offense to the tune of 26 assists.
Along the backlines Christa Tucker had 14 digs with a team best three service aces.
Colorado Christian 3, Fort Lewis 0 (25-14, 25-17, 25-22)
Similar to their opener, the Cougars lead nearly throughout the contest as they improved their offensive effort to grab a victory.
Colorado Christian never trailed in the opening set as Fort Lewis had a negative team hitting percentage while the Cougars stayed steady. Fort Lewis fell behind early but got as close as 14-13 and 15-14 but the home never took the lead. Colorado Christian used a 10-3 scoring spurt to close out the second stanza.
Fort Lewis went up 11-7 but the Cougars slowly but clawed their way back and took a 17-15 lead. Fort Lewis never led again but pulled within a single point on two occasions, including 23-22. However, kills from Jasa Scheierman and Breanna Allen concluded the successful day.
Strong offense from Jacey Johnson was welcomed by the Cougars as the reigning RMAC Offensive Player of the Week had 11 kills with a .526 hitting percentage. Allen nearly pulled off a double-double with a nine-kill, 10-dig performance.
Maddie Burns had 30 assists from her setter spot while Christia Tucker provided 10 digs and a reliable three service aces.
