Late Goal Stops Cougars

LAKEWOOD, CO – Another battle but unfortunately the weekend script stayed the same for Colorado Christian.

A late goal stung the Cougars for the second time in 48 hours as Fort Lewis nabbed a 2-1 victory on a chilly Sunday afternoon at Trailblazer Stadium.

A highly physical game saw the teams combine for 45 fouls and seven yellow cards.

HOW IT HAPPENED: Similar to Friday's contest, the game was scoreless at intermission. Fort Lewis held a 12-2 shooting edge during the first 45 minutes.

The Skyhawks took the lead in the 50th minute when Andres Hernandez put a beautiful cross into the  box where Gabriel Legendre scored his first goal of the season from eight yards out.

Colorado Christian put themselves right back into the contest in the 74th minute. Zach Mercier drew a foul in the box then Dmitri Fabro calmly put home the penalty kick in the right side of the goal cage.

Fort Lewis scored the game winner when Loic Jean-Baptiste took a nice feed through the middle from Gabriel Legendre in the 82nd minute.

The last few minutes saw a flurry of activity as the Cougars had scoring changes. Eli Donaho blasted a one-touch shot from just outside the box that stunned the Fort Lewis goalie with a chest save. In the closing seconds the Cougars had a corner kick. Fabro got a head on the ball but couldn't put in on frame as the final buzzer sounded.

COUGAR LEADERS: Fabro, Donaho, Silas Hess and Caiden Dixon each took a pair of shots for the home team.
