Nighthawks Claim Five Setter

LAKEWOOD, CO – Looking to close out their home slate on a high note, the Cougars began a two-match, two-day stretch against Northwest Nazarene on Tuesday evening.

The Nighthawks rallied after dropping the opening set to post a 3-2 (18-25, 25-15, 25-21, 19-25, 15-8) victory against Colorado Christian.

HOW IT HAPPENED: In a rare occurrence for a match that goes the distance, the contest saw just three lead changes in the over two-hour contest.

Whichever team had the better hitting performance in a given set, won that frame. But it wasn't just about offense that aided in the Northwest Nazarene victory. The visitors tallied 19 total team blocks, six of which came in the final set.

For the Cougars they battled back from a 2-1 deficit after the third frame. In that fourth set they jumped out to a big lead and never looked back as they hoped to continue that momentum into the fifth stanza.

During that final frame, the Nighthawks jumped out to a 3-0 then a 7-3 lead. As the rest of the set continued, Colorado Christian couldn't get their deficit under three points.

COUGAR LEADERS: Kylar Raymond tallied a team high 13 kills in four sets while Jasa Scheierman registered a 12-kill effort; also while playing four sets.

Each Setter played significant time with Maddie Burns dishing out 15 assists in the first two sets while Jincey Nystedt saw all the playing time the rest of the way. The sophomore notched a 26-assist, 16-dig effort.

The defense along the back lines saw Christa Tucker have a match best 21 digs. She also had four service aces.
