HILLSBORO, KS – There's still a fair amount of this wacky season to be played but, the Colorado Christian men's soccer team is putting together something not seen at the University in quite some time.
On a breezy Thursday evening in the Jayhawks state, the Cougars came away with a 1-0 overtime victory against Tabor College.
The victory gives the Cougars their third one-goal win of the season as they have started the year with three straight wins. The last time that has happened at Colorado Christian was the 2014 season.
HOW IT HAPPENED: While the Cougars controlled a majority of the possession neither team tickled the twine behind the goalkeeper in the first stanza. After the first 45 minutes Colorado Christian had a 5-1 total shot advantage.
Both teams hit the frame around the goal in the second half. Tabor had a chance in the 66th minute but the Blue Jays shot by Jonathan Davis hit the crossbar. With just under 12 minutes left, Larson Hanlin took a free kick from approximately 20 yards from goal that hit the crossbar.
After 90 minutes the Cougars held a 10-3 total shot edge, including a 6-1 margin for shots on goal.
Less than four minutes into the first overtime session, the freshman tandem of Gabe Roloff and Ben Hess provided the game winner. Roloff battled off defenders in the box and put the ball right in front of the goal mouth before Hess toe poked home the game winner.
