LAKEWOOD, CO – Winning is always nice. No doubt about it. But when you can grab a win on Senior Day, it feels extra nice.
On Saturday afternoon the Colorado Christian played their most complete match of the season as they knocked off Black Hills State 3-1 (25-13, 25-18, 23-25, 25-17).
HOW IT HAPPENED: The first two sets the Cougars were clicking on all cylinders as they were in control of the contest.
The home team opened the match with a .438 team hitting percentage in the initial set as they cruised to a 1-0 lead in the contest. The Yellow Jackets made a bit of late charge in the second frame but Colorado Christian held a comfortable cushion as they took a commanding lead.
Black Hills State came out of the third set with a strong offensive effort. A late charge by the Cougars tied the set at 23-23 but the visitors closed out the stanza with back-to-back points. In that frame, the Yellow Jackets had a .273 hitting mark.
Colorado Christian jumped out to a 9-3 edge then pushed it to 12-5 and never were threatened the rest of the stanza.
COUGAR LEADERS: Jacey Johnson produced a match high 13 kills as she hit .417 from her rightside position. Breanna Allen registered a double-double with 12 kills and 13 digs while Kylar Raymond tallied 11 kills. Jasa Scheierman nearly broke into double figures with a nine-kill performance.
Among the specialty players, Maddie Burns doled out 45 assists while Christa Tucker had 17 digs.
