Cougars Fall to MSU Denver in Heartbreaker

LAKEWOOD, CO – The Cougars ended the weekend hosting a non-conference matchup against MSU Denver. A defensive game the Cougars and Road Runners both scored early in the game before MSU Denver won in 2OT with a goal in the 105th minute.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The scoring got started early, Taya Starnes got the Cougars on the board, from 20 yards out, Starnes struck the ball that curved over the keepers hand and settled in the back of the net.

MSU Denver responded quickly, scoring less than a minute after the Cougars did, thanks to Luna Garcia. Garcia made several skill moves and struck the ball with her right foot just outside the goalies box into the bottom left of the goal.

The two teams remained tied for the remainder of regulation as both teams played solid defense as the Cougars had two shots on goal and the Road Runners had 11 shots on goal.

After a quite first half of overtime, the Cougars had a chance but the ball sailed wide of the net. MSU Denver responded quickly with a goal off a corner kick in the 105th minute.

COUGAR LEADERS:  Taya Starnes had the Cougars lone goal along with three shots. Emie Peterson had two shots with both of them being on goal. Ashleigh Maguire had eight saves in goal for the Cougars.

UP NEXT: The Cougars will host Regis next Friday at 2 p.m. at Trailblazer. Fans will be allowed based on Jefferson County Regulations.
