ALAMOSA, CO – Looking for a four-game sweep, the Cougars rally came up short in Sunday's finale in the San Luis Valley.
Despite trailing by 13 runs in the early going, the Colorado Christian baseball team fought back but couldn't overcome the Adams State lead as the Grizzles posted a 17-11 win.
HOW IT HAPPENED: The home team raced out to a 14-1 edge after the first four inning. During those early frames the Grizzles put five balls over the fence on a windy day.
Colorado Christian responded by scoring six runs in the fifth inning to keep the contest interesting. Caden Walton and Luke Thompson each had two RBI base knocks while Eli Ludwig and Wyatt Crenshaw each drove home a run.
Adams State got a run back in the bottom of the fifth inning to give them a 15-7 edge heading into the last four innings. The Cougars were able to score a pair of runs in the seventh and eighth innings respectively but in each instance the Grizzles got a run back during their half inning to keep their lead at a somewhat comfortable level.
COUGAR LEADERS: Jordan Medina continued his strong season by banging out three hits in his five at-bats. The catcher scored three times and hit a homerun during his afternoon.
Thompson, Ludwig and Russell Cruz each had a pair of hits with Thompson also registering a homerun.
