Cougars Fall Twice Against No. 1 Colorado Mesa

GRAND JUNCTION, CO – It all comes down to Saturday.

Hoping to secure its first RMAC tournament berth in school history, Colorado Christian couldn't nail down a win as the dropped both games of Friday's doubleheader at Colorado Mesa.

For the Cougars to secure the berth they need a win on Saturday against the Mavericks or a loss by New Highlands against Regis.

GAME ONE – Colorado Mesa 22, Colorado Christian 3

The Mavericks offense was relentless as they scored multiple runs in four different innings during their 17-hit attack.

The home team scored four, three and two runs in the first three innings respectively. The big blow came in the fifth stanza as Colorado Mesa had 12 runners cross the plate.

Each of the Cougars runs came from homeruns as Blake Mattey, Wyatt Crenshaw and Tommy Orr each hit a solo homerun.

GAME TWO – Colorado Mesa 8, Colorado Christian 4

Despite a pair of homeruns from Jordan Medina, the Cougars couldn't overcome a quick start from the home team.

The Mavericks scored five runs in the first frame then another in the second as they held a 6-0 lead before Colorado Christian got their first run on the scoreboard. Medina hit a solo shot on full count in the fourth inning. However, the home team answered right back with a two-run homerun in the bottom half of the stanza to take an 8-2 edge.

Medina hit his second solo homerun in the sixth inning then the Cougars scored twice in the last inning on a Crenshaw two-out base knock that scored Eli Ludwig and Manny Thompson. However, the Cougar rally ended with a ground out fielders choice to end the contest.

UP NEXT: The final home game of the regular season has first pitch set for Noon at Suplizio Field.
