Cougars Open Wisconsin Trip with Two Setbacks

KENOSHA, WI – Hoping to secure a win or two during the first-day of the Hampton Inn Invitational, the Colorado Christian volleyball team fell short in the first of two days in the Badger State.

The Cougars fell to Parkside, the host of the event, in the morning before dropping a four set contest to Minnesota State later in the day.

Parkside 3, Colorado Christian 0 (25-20, 25-20, 25-21)

Despite falling behind 6-0 early, the Cougars pulled within a single point on a handful of occasions before the home team scored the opening set's final four points. The second frame was back-and-fourth until Parkside went ahead 20-12. However, Colorado Christian pulled within 20-17 but couldn't get that deficit beneath three points.

The third set was the tightest of the match as the score was tied 10 times with the lead switching hands on four occasions. Colorado Christian was ahead 21-17 but the Rangers scored the final eight points of the match.

Bre Allen had a team high seven kills with Alli Douglass and Kylar Raymond chipping-in six each. Izzy Jones dished out 23 assists with Madelyn Long registering a Cougar best 12 digs.

Minnesota State 3, Colorado Christian 1 (25-17, 25-16, 13-25, 25-15)

The Mavericks rushed out a two-set lead in the contest while holding the Colorado Christian hitters in check.

During the third set the Cougars came to life as they flipped the offensive script. Colorado Christian posted a .309 team hitting percentage while holding Minnesota State in negative hitting to get themselves back into the contest. However, that momentum for the Cougars was short lived. The Mavericks found their offensive rhythm again by hitting .405 as a team and never allowing Colorado Christian to find a steady pace.

The duo of Mackenzie Close and Raymond each had a team high seven kills with Jones' 31 assists directing the Colorado Christian offense.

Along the backlines Long and Jones recorded nine digs.

UP NEXT: The Cougars are going to be rising early to start their second day at the event. Their first match is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. (CST) against Lake Superior State.
