Split Closes Out Trip to Wisconsin

KENOSHA, WI – Closing out their trip to the Midwest, the Colorado Christian women's volleyball team split a pair of matches on the final day of the Hampton Inn Invitational.

The Cougars opened the day with an early morning victory against Lake Superior State before falling in their afternoon contest against nationally ranked Minnesota Duluth.

Colorado Christian 3, Lake Superior State 1 (19-25, 25-19, 25-19, 25-19)

Despite dropping the opening set, the Cougars rebounded by claiming a four set victory. In the second frame, Colorado Christian turned a quick 2-0 deficit into a 10-7 and never relented as they methodically grew their lead to tie the contest at a set apiece.

Similarly, in the third set the Cougars turned a brief early deficit into a lead. They turned an 18-17 lead into a 25-19 set win by scoring seven of the final nine points in the set. In the final set the Cougars jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead before the Lakers tied the frame at 12-12. However, down the stretch Colorado Christian nudged ahead slowly and surely to claim the match.

Libby Goodman was an offensive wrecking crew as she registered 19 kills on 54 swings. Madelyn Long had a solid match along the back row with a personal career best 26 digs.

No. 11 Minnesota Duluth 3, Colorado Christian 0 (25-17, 25-14, 25-13)

The Cougars closed on their trip to Wisconsin with a three frame setback against the perennial national powerhouse Bulldogs.

Minnesota Duluth played a complete match as they hit .430 as a team during the contest while holding the Cougars offense to 16 total kills and a .053 team hitting percentage.

Ashley Drye had a team best four kills. Playing her first full collegiate match, Abby Newell recorded three kills.

Izzy Jones and Tiffinay Gaupohl took turns directing the offense as they recorded 10 and five assists respectively. Long's 10 digs led the team.

UP NEXT: The Cougars return home to host Adams State on Tuesday evening for their home and RMAC opener.
