LAKEWOOD, CO - Adams State rallied from a set down to claim a thrilling five-set win in the RMAC opener for both teams.
The Grizzlies 3-2 win (13-25, 25-22, 23-25, 25-20, 15-9) over Colorado Christian snapped a four-match losing streak for Adams State against the Cougars.
HOW IT HAPPENED: Colorado Christian did everything right to start the match as they cruised to a 25-13 opening frame win. During that set the Cougars only committed three errors with 15 kills on 29 attempts.Â
A significant momentum shift happened late in the second set. Colorado Christian held a 21-17 lead but the Grizzles rallied with an 8-1 scoring spurt to tie the match at one set each. The home team responded well in a tight third set. During that frame the score was tied 12 ties with six lead changes but the Cougars held off a late charge from Adam State to take the two set to one edge.
Adams State posted their best hitting late in the match. In forcing a final set, the Grizzles hit .242 in the fourth frame and never trailed during the second half of the set. The visitors jumped out to a 7-1 lead in the fifth frame and never let the Cougars draw closer than a three-point deficit to secure the match win.
COUGAR LEADERS: Bre Allen had a team best 20 kills while
Libby Goodman registered 14 to pace the offense.Â
Izzy Jones had a match high 45 assists in directing the Colorado Christian attack. She also posted a 10-dig effort in tallying her first double-double of the season.
Madelyn Long had a match high 19 digs.
