LAKEWOOD, CO - The Cougars ended with a loss against nationally ranked #15 Emporia State. This is the second nationally ranked team Colorado Christian has faced this season.
HOW IT HAPPENED - Colorado Christian came out strong in the first half. They were able to keep possession and play mostly in their attacking third. The Cougars started to let up after the first goal they conceded was caused by a breakdown in the back line and miscommunication that lead to a one on one with goalkeeper
Keeley Kroonenberg. The second goal came from a cross off a flip throw-in and among the chaos with several players in the box it was flicked in the goal.
Coming into the second half the Cougars held the Hornets to their 2-0 lead. The third goal came in the 54th minute when the back line was split and a low driven shot near post hit the back of the net. Colorado Christian had a few opportunities and close shots on goal by
Capri Dewing and
Saige Stock.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Alana Lopp played her first minutes of the season when she was subbed in during the second half. The fourth goal resulted from a save from Lopp that rebounded to the top of the box and was hard driven shot to the bottom corner.
