Cougars Drop Game to Western Colorado

GUNNISON, CO- Colorado Christian continued their road-trip in Southern Colorado with a matchup on Sunday against Western Colorado. The Mountaineers snagged an early lead, and the Cougars could not break through as they fell 1-0 ultimately.

HOW IT HAPPENED- CCU got the first shot of the game off as Capri Dewing had an early look go wide. After a flurry of shots from the Mountaineers, they broke through in the 9th minute to take the lead 1-0. The Cougars pressured right back as Allie Hotz hit wide before Kiana Fen saw a shot go off the top post and out. Kiley Connery and Jessica Sims got off shots before Alaina Kregel nearly scored, forcing a save from the keeper for WCU. Kregel forced another save just before half as the score stood at 1-0 in favor of the hosts at the break.

Defense set in more in the second half as both teams had far less chances throughout the final 45 minutes. Dewing had a look in the 68th, but yet again the Mountaineers keeper was up to the challenge and made the save. The last look came in the 88th as Dewing once again took a shot on goal, but it was secured by the goalie as Western Colorado hung on for the 1-0 victory in the end.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:

  • CCU recorded 11 shots with four on goal
  • Fouls were even with 10 called on each team
  • Dewing led the offensive effort with five shots total
