LAKEWOOD,CO- The Cougars returned home for a matchup against the #10 team in Division II in Colorado School of Mines. CCU more than held their own for a majority of the match, but in the end the Orediggers claimed the win 3-0.
HOW IT HAPPENED- Mines began pressuring early, but Cougars keeper Alana Lopp was sharp throughout as she recorded a pair of early saves. In the 11th minute of play, a long throw into the box was glanced towards the goal and ended up in the back of the net on a clearance attempt as the Orediggers took a 1-0 lead. Skylee Deladurantaye and Saige Stock both had close misses as they tried to equalize. Mines had a great look at a 2-0 lead just before half, but Lopp made a fantastic save at point blank range to keep the deficit just one heading to half.Â
The offense began to find more rhythm for CCU in the second period as Ashleigh Willette put a shot on goal that forced a save. The Orediggers put another goal through in the 62nd minute of play, and another came in the 70th to make ot 3-0 Mines. Despite their best efforts the Cougars could not get one past the keeper for the Orediggers as they fell by a score of 3-0 in a hard fought battle.
