LAKEWOOD,CO- Colorado Christian took on the top team in the RMAC in Regis University on Sunday afternoon. The Cougars battled all the way to the end, but two late goals from the Rangers gave them the 2-0 victory in the end.
HOW IT HAPPENED- The two teams traded shots early, with keeper Ashleigh Maguire making a save in the 7th. Alaina Kregel came close in the 15th with a shot. Another Kregel strike was saved yet again as CCU pressured heavily. Saige Stock and Skylee Deladurantaye put a pair more on saves before Stock had an incredible look. A free kick from just outside the box from Stock hit the top post and bounced down, appearing to potentially go in. However, the side referee did not signal the goal and play continued still scoreless. ANother Maguire save capped the first half as the two teams went to break at 0-0.
Maguire made a pair of incredible saves in a frantic sequence in the box that saw two shots fired in quick succession, but the graduate keeper was up to the challenge each time. Molly Miller had a look from point blank range but the Rangers keeper made a gritty save to keep it scoreless. Heading into the final two minutes, both teams had not found the back of the net. However, a through ball created a one on one for Regis and they put home a goal late to take the lead. Another goal less than a minute later sealed things as the Rangers claimed a 2-0 victory in a game that was much closer than the scoreline shows.
