DENVER, CO- The Cougars headed to nearby Denver to take on cross-town rival #18 Regis. Despite a strong effort from Colorado Christian, the Rangers claimed the victory in four sets.
HOW IT HAPPENED- The Cougars started strong, jumping ahead 7-5 on a Renee Phillips ace and Anna Merrill kill. Another four-point run from CCU had them up 12-9 on consecutive kills from Lilly Woods. They maintained the three point lead at 15-12 with a Jessa Rose ace, but Regis hung close. A five-point Rangers run had them up 19-16, and they took the set 25-21 ultimately.
A tight second set followed as the two teams grappled for an advantage. A Libby Goodman kill made it 11-9 midway through the set in favor of Regis, but Tarryn Debenedetto picked up an ace to put her team ahead 18-17. Another late run from the Rangers put them ahead 21-18 and they closed the set out 25-20.
Determined to push a fourth set, the Cougars came out firing with a 15-13 lead midway through, and Savannah Overson slammed home consecutive kills as the lead grew to 19-14. They held on for the 25-21 victory as a fourth set loomed.
CCU jumped ahead 9-7 on a kill from Woods, but a Rangers run had them up 15-10, and they later went on another run to take a 20-12 advantage. Despite a push from the Cougars, Regis took the set 25-16 to win the match in four.
