LAKEWOOD,CO- Colorado Christian returned home to take on Fort Lewis Friday evening. A strong effort saw them take a four-set victory to get back on track in conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED- The match was very competitive for most of play, and that started in the first set as the two teams battled to a 15-15 tie as they went back and forth. After a Renee Phillips kill made it 19 apiece, the Skyhawks took a 22-20 lead late. Lilly Woods then took over, picking up three kills in a row for a 24-22 CCU lead. After FLC tied it at 24, a Woods kill and Fort Lewis error gave Colorado Christian the set 26-24.
The Skyhawks rallied from an early 3-0 deficit in set two to take a 15-11 lead as they looked to tie things at a set apiece. Savannah Overson got in on the action with a kill to put her team back up 16-15 as things tightened down the stretch. A late effort from FLC gave them the set 25-22 as things stood knotted up at a set apiece.
Set three was a dominant one from the Cougars as they took a quick 11-6 lead on a Libby Goodman slam. Goodman made it 15-8 before the lead grew to 19-9 on a Phillips kill. A slew of errors piled up for the Skyhawks that gave CCU the set 25-12.
Looking for the win, Colorado Christian took a fast 9-4 advantage on a Kristina House ace. The lead grew to 12-5 on a kill from Abigail Newell. A strong Skyhawks rally saw them come all the way back to tie it at 18 as the set winded down. With the score at 22-20 in favor of the Cougars, they rattled off three straight on a pair of kills from Goodman sandwiched by a slam from Woods Woods as they claimed the set and the match 25-20.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- Goodman and Phillips dominated with 17 and 16 kills respectively to pace the offense
- Izzy Jones was facilitating well all night, dishing out an impressive 48 assists for her team
- Jessa Rose was strong at libero, tallying 21 digs while Jones had 14
