GOLDEN, CO- Colorado Christian headed to nearby Golden to take on #21 Colorado School of Mines on Friday. In a tough battle, CCU fell in three sets despite a strong effort on the road.
HOW IT HAPPENED- Set one started out in favor of the Orediggers as they jumped ahead 10-1 early. The Cougars fought to get back in the set with kills from Renee Phillips and Abigail Newell, but Mines maintained a ten point lead throughout as they took the set 25-15.Â
The second set was tight throughout as an Alli Douglass kill made it 9-7 Orediggers. Lilly Woods cut the deficit to one as she slammed one home, and a four-point run led by a kill from Anna Merrill put CCU ahead 18-16. Woods made it 20-17 before a Mines run tied things at 21. Phillips gave her team a set point at 24-23 but the Orediggers responded with two straight points. The teams battled on as a Phillips kill tied it at 27 apiece. CCU saved several set points on kills from Douglass, and Woods made it 29-28 with a kill. However, Mines rattled off three straight points to claim a thrilling 31-29 set win.
The hosts were keen on picking up the sweep, but Colorado Christian did not make it easy. A Libby Goodman kill gave her team the early lead as they pushed to force a fourth set. Midway through the set, Mines went on a run to claim a 16-9 advantage. They closed the final set out for the sweep by a score of 25-17.
