LAKEWOOD,CO- It was a snowy night on Thursday as the Cougars took on the Knights of Spurgeon College. CCU didn't let the cold weather dampen their spirits, bringing the firepower all night with a 94-57 victory.
Despite CCU students being on break for Thanksgiving, they brought the energy all night, packing the tin shed and boisterously cheering their team on. There was plenty to cheer for as Colorado Christian dominated all night, outplaying their opponent in all phases of the game.
The Cougars were led by a balanced offensive attack, with five players scoring in double digits on the night. Noah Kon dropped 14 points on .500 shooting and six assists while Nic Zeil tallied 13 points and nine boards. Christian Bento impressed with 12 points, highlighted by a dunk that brought the roaring crowd to its feet.
Schafer Reichart was strong throughout, with 10 points on 3-3 shooting from the field. Maro Egodotaye brought the energy all night, posting 10 points, including a thunderous two handed jam that sent the gym into a frenzy.
CCU saw a strong effort from their entire team, outsourcing the Knights 39-20 off the bench. The Cougars feasted in the paint, scoring 52 points to their opponents 26. Colorado Christian also showed opportunistic transition play, scoring 24 points off of turnovers throughout the night. The icing on the cake was the 23 second chance points CCU scored to cap an excellent display in their home opener.
Overall, the Cougars shot an astounding 60.7% from the field and 50% from beyond the arc. 19 free throws helped salt away a convincing victory for Colorado Christian as they picked up their first win of the year.
CCU will be back in action on November 19 at home against Barclay College. Tipoff is set for 5 p.m. MST.
