Non-Conference Play Wraps Up With A Win

LAKEWOOD, CO. – Closing out their non-conference campaign with their fourth straight win, the Colorado Christian University Cougars defeated the Coyotes of Kansas Wesleyan University, 71-57.

HOW IT HAPPENED – Starting out steady, the teams traded offensive efforts to keep an even score for the majority of the first half. Back-to-back 3's in under thirty seconds from DJ McDonald edged CCU ahead to start, seeing a quick 7-point lead. Kansas Wesleyan kept chipping away and took advantage of their trips to the charity stripe, giving them the lead by 6 going into the locker rooms at 35-29.

Making a habit of it, CCU's DJ McDonald started the second half like the first with back-to-back 3's (including a 4-point play) to shorten the Cougars deficit to 1-point. Just under the fourteen-minute mark, Colorado Christian took off on a 9-0 run to take the lead for good. In the last six minutes, the Cougars went 7-10 from the free-throw line to secure the victory. The last bucket of the game was beyond the arc from Christian St. Germain, making the final score 71-57. Overall the two teams battled it out to the very last second, playing aggressively and at a high pace throughout the entire game.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE – Leading the points column for both teams was DJ McDonald, who finished with 21 after sinking six 3's. Noah Kon was the next leading scorer with 14. Leading the team in rebounds and closing out the double-digit crew was Jason Gallant who had 9 rebounds and 13 points.

UP NEXT – Hosting their opening RMAC games, Colorado Christian (4-2) will face New Mexico Highlands (2-4) on Friday, December 2nd at 7pm, followed by CSU Pueblo on Saturday, December 3rd at 7pm.
