Lakewood, CO - Colorado Christian opened up RMAC play on Friday night December 2
nd against New Mexico Highlands University. It was a tough night shooting for the Cougars as they were unable to sustain any momentum as they eventually fell by a final score of 73-62
How it Happened - The Cougars opened up the game with
Jason Gallant knocking down a jumper to give the Cougs the early 2-0 lead. Highlands battled back which began a tough back and forth matchup throughout the game. Just over five minutes in to the game,
Maro Egodotaye got into the act as he was fouled while making a layup and he converted his free throw to finish off the three point play which tied the game 5-5.
The two sides continued to battle and exchange baskets back and forth, but Highlands went on a run and with just under three minutes remaining in the first half they led by 12 with the score 33-21 in favor of the Cowboys. The Cougars battled back to close out the first half and cut their deficit back down to single digits as they trailed by a score of 27-36 heading into the break.
NMHU stretched their led up to 18 at one point in the second half, but the Cougars refused to give in and continued to battle. They cut the deficit down to nine with just under three minutes left to play, but that was as close as they would get as New Mexico Highlands was able to run out the remainder of the clock and hold on to defeat the Cougars by a final score of 73-62.
Inside the Box Score – Colorado Christian was led in scoring by
Jason Gallant who tallied 15 points in the game including hitting all six of his shots from the free throw line.
Nic Zeil also finished in double figures for the game with 10 points and grabbed six rebounds.
CCU will waste little time before getting back to action as they will take on CSU Pueblo on Saturday December 3
