Cougars Fall in Three at CSU Pueblo

PUEBLO, CO- Colorado Christian headed south to Colorado State University Pueblo for a matchup that would decide fifth place in the RMAC tournament on Friday evening. The Thunderwolves came away with the sweep at their home arena despite the Cougars fight.

HOW IT HAPPENED- CSUP started fast, going on a long run early to take a 12-3 advantage. CCU attempted to rally with a kill from Libby Goodman, but the Thunderwolves continued to stretch their lead. Janelle Deboer tallied a kill late, but CSUP took the set 25-11 in the end.

Alli Douglass got the offense going in set two, tying things at five apiece early. Again, CSU Pueblo went on several long runs to take control of the set at 20-11. Abigail Newell put down a kill but CCU ultimately fell in set two 25-13.

The Cougars got off to a strong start looking to avoid the sweep as Goodman slammed home three kills in a row for a 6-5 lead. Things stood tied at 11 midway through, and the two teams continued to battle from there. A slew of CSUP errors gave CCU a 19-18 lead late as things tightened up in crunch time. A service error made it 23-22 Cougars, but the Thunderwolves rattled off three straight points for the set and the match 25-23.

  • Anna Merrill tallied five blocks for her team to help the defense
