CHADRON, NE- The Cougars finished out their season on the road Saturday at Chadron State. It was a thrilling battle, but Colorado Christian ultimately fell in a close game 89-87.
HOW IT HAPPENED- Ross Williams began what would be a big night with consecutive jumpers early on. DJ McDonald nailed a three and Williams joined him with a bucket from deep. Isaiah Alonzo got a layup to go, and Williams nailed another three as the two teams battled back and forth. The Eagles led 26-22 midway through the quarter.
Williams continued to shine with another three, and Nic Ziel hit a jumper to cut into the Chadron lead. McDonald converted the rare four-point play to tie it at 37, and the two teams fought till half with the Eagles leading 50-47.
McDonald quickly tied it with a three, and Darius Henderson gave his team a lead with a three of his own. Christian Bento converted a layup to push the lead to three as the clock hit the 10 minute mark.
Williams continued to shoot the lights out, scoring eight straight points with two threes and a layup to push the lead to five. The two teams traded baskets as the final minute approached. The Cougars fell behind late, and Chadron State hit their free throws to claim a narrow 89-87 win.
COUGARS LEADERS:
Ross Williams dropped an impressive 37 points while Isaiah Alonzo pulled down 16 rebounds. DJ McDonald picked up eight assists on the night.
