LAKEWOOD,CO- The Cougars left no doubt about their talent level this weekend, claiming two more victories on Monday in dominant fashion, 12-4 and 8-0 to improve to 4-0 in RMAC play.
GAME ONE
The offense got right to work in the first inning, plating a run on a sacrifice fly from Miki Berg. Piper Lujan then stepped up and promptly ripped a three-run jack to right center-field to make it 4-0. Kenzie Middleton picked up an RBI double to score Abie Brown in the second and a Sami Edwards triple scored Kaelin Morkisch and Middleton to make it 7-0. Sydney Reamer capped the inning off with an RBI single as it stood at 8-0 after two.
Kenzie Middleton continued an excellent weekend with a two-run homer in the third, and Taylor Olsen ripped a two-run shot of her own to extend the lead to 12-0 Cougars. Four late runs from the Skyhawks were not enough as Colorado Christian took the 12-4 victory via run rule after 4.5 innings.
Alexis Hamilton picked up her fifth win of the year on four innings of work while Piper Lujan and Kenzie Middleton picked up three RBI apiece.
GAME TWO
The Cougars employed the long ball early and often in the second contest of the day, starting with a three-run shot from Berg in the second. Edwards followed that up later in the inning with another three-run blast to give her team a 6-0 lead. Samaria Roope then ripped a two-run homer in the third to make the advantage 8-0 heading to the fourth. Colorado Christian locked down the Fort Lewis offense to pick up the victory via run rule 8-0.
Abrie Castillo dazzled throughout, allowing only two hits through five scoreless innings to pick up the win. Sami Edwards and Miki Berg each grabbed three RBI with their homers to lead the team to 4-0 start to conference play.
UP NEXT- The Cougars will continue conference play with a doubleheader on March 5 at MSU Denver at 12 and 2 p.m.
