LAKEWOOD, CO- The Cougars headed to cross-town rival MSU Denver for a doubleheader on Friday. Colorado Christian fell 6-5 on a walkoff in the first game but bounced back for a 6-3 win in game two.
GAME ONE
Alexis Hamilton got the start on the mound for the Cougars, but MSU Denver got to her in the first inning with a leadoff homer and a second run on a double to claim the early lead. Colorado Christian responded in the fourth with an absolute bomb over the center field wall from Piper Lujan to tie things up at two.
The Cougars made their move in the top of the sixth, beginning with an RBI single from Samaria Roope to score Miki Berg. Logan Menzies cranked a double down the left field line to bring home Roope and Kenzie Middleton picked up an RBI groundout to score Kayla Middleton as the lead stood at 5-2. The Roadrunners rallied back, scoring two runs in the sixth and two more in the seventh to walk it off with a 6-5 victory.
GAME TWO
Colorado Christian got straight to work in the first inning of the second contest, snagging a quick 2-0 lead on a home run from Sydney Reamer. Miki Berg kept the explosive hitting up with a solo shot in the second, and the long ball barrage continued in the third with a two-run blast from Taylor Olsen as the lead grew to 5-0. The Roadrunners tacked on a pair in the fourth and fifth, but Kenzie Middleton snagged an insurance run in the sixth with an RBI foul out to score Kayla Middleton. A late run was not enough for MSU Denver as the Cougars claimed a 6-3 victory.
Abrie Castillo was brilliant from the mound, picking up the complete-game win with only three hits allowed and seven strikeouts on the day.
