Career Best Times Highlight Day 1 of NCAA T&F Championships

The Indoor Track & Field NCAA Championships began on Friday as it was being hosted at the Harvey Dean Track in Pittsburg, Kansas. Colorado Christian was being represented on the day by Jeremy Miller, Isaac Russo and Michelle Kuipers. Miller and Russo both competed in the prelim for the Mile, while Kuipers competed in the 800M. All three ran their best times of the season, with Kuipers and Russo running the best times of their careers.

Isaac Russo and Jeremy Miller both took to the track first as they raced in the prelim for the mile. It was a talented field as the top runners in the country looked to post a great time and get into the finals. Both ran hard as pushed themselves to good finishes, but were unable to qualify for the finals. Isaac Russo ran the best time of his career finishing with a career best time of 4:12.17. Jeremy Miller ran 4:14.81 which was his season best time. Head coach Jon Poag spoke about their performances saying, "The heat that Isaac and Jeremy raced in was tough as the style didn't favor any of the strengths that they have. It was a slow race from the start and it favored those that rely on a strong kick."

Michelle Kuipers used a strong finishing push to secure a spot in the 800M finals tomorrow. Kuipers broke her own school record with a time of 2:09.26 and finished second in her heat. Kuipers strong race not only secured her spot in the finals, but also resulted in becoming an All-American in the 800M. The finals for the event will be run on Saturday March 12 at 5:35PM MST. After the race coach Poag said, "I am really proud of the race that Michelle ran today. She ran like a true veteran and proved that she is one of the best in the country after running such a savvy race."
