LAKEWOOD, CO- The Cougars completed their four-game series against Black Hills State with another doubleheader on Sunday. The offense was scorching hot throughout both games as Colorado Christian picked up two run-rule wins 14-1 and 11-1.
GAME ONE
Kenzie Middleton led off the game with a solo homer and Taylor Olsen blasted a two-run shot to jump ahead 3-0 early. Miki Berg picked up an RBI single in the third to push the lead to 4-0. The Yellowjackets posted a run in their half of the fourth before the Cougars put the game to bed in the bottom of the fourth.
Several singles loaded the bases for Berg, who doubled to the left side to clear the bases and take a 7-1 lead. Kayla Middleton then singled Berg home and back to back walks loades the bases. Logan Menzies stepped up to the plate and crushed a grand slam to make the lead 12-1. Two more runs came across as the Cougars erupted for 10 runs in the inning and closed out a 14-1 win in the fifth.
Alexis Hamilton picked up her ninth win of the year on four innings pitched with four strikeouts on three hits and one run allowed.
GAME TWO
Kenzie Middleton began the second contest just like the first, ripping a leadoff homer. Sydney Reamer blasted another home run to left field as the lead grew to 2-0 in the first. Black Hills State drew to within a run with a solo shot in the second.
Once again the Cougars had a dominant inning where they broke the game open in the third. Kenzie Middleton hit her second homer of the game to leadoff the inning as she remained on fire at the plate. Olsen singled home two runs as the lead grew to 5-1. Miki Berg doubled home a run and Piper Lujan slammed a two-run homer to put things out of reach at 8-1. Middleton came up to bat for the second time in the game and slammed an astounding third homer of the game and second of the inning to make it 10-1. Sami Edwards ripped a solo shot and the Cougars run-ruled the Yellowjackets 11-1.
Abrie Castillo pitched three innings of one-run ball on three hits with two strikeouts for her eighth win of the year. Sydney Rawlings and Julie Katz closed things out with two hits and no runs allowed between them.
UP NEXT- The Cougars improve to 13-1 in RMAC play and will now head to UCCS for a doubleheader on March 22 at 12 and 2 p.m.
