Late Inning Offense Propels Cougars to Pair of Wins

LAKEWOOD,CO- Colorado Christian continued their homestand with a pair of non-conference games against UCCS on Wednesday. The Cougars used two late inning rallies to come out on top in both contests.

GAME ONE
Game one began similarly with both teams hitting a single in their halves of the first before being retired with no runs scored. Samaria Roope got the scoring started with a single in the  second to score Miki Berg. Kaitlynn Martinez pinch ran for Roope and came around to score after a stolen base and error to make it 2-0.

The Mountain Lions responded in the third with four runs to take the lead. The Cougars responded right back, tying it at four with an RBI groundout from Sydney Reamer and an error that allowed Taylor Olsen to come home.

Things slowed down until the sixth when UCCS plated two runs to take the late 6-4 lead. Colorado Christian remained unphased, once again responding with runs. Olsen smacked an RBI double before Piper Lujan doubled home Berg and Olsen to take the lead back 7-6. Sydney Rawlings escaped a bases loaded jam with back-to-back strikeouts to close out the win for her team in the seventh.

GAME TWO
The second contest was more of a pitcher's duel to start with as Abrie Castillo battled Lexie Rayburn through three scoreless innings. The Cougars struck first in the third inning with a Sydney Reamer triple to score Kenzie Middleton. The Mountain Lions responded with two runs in the fourth to take the lead 2-1.

Sami Edwards regained the lead for her team with a two RBI triple, and Reamer picked up an RBI on a sacrifice fly to score Edwards and push the lead to 4-2. Once again UCCS battled back, tying the game with a pair of runs in the top of the sixth. However, similar to the first game, Colorado Christian had another late game rally in them.

With two outs quickly recorded, Piper Lujan drew a walk to extend the inning. Samaria Roope then was hit by a pitch to put a runner in scoring position. The Cougars took advantage, as Kaelin Morkisch picked up an RBI single to make it 5-4. Kenzie Middleton then slapped a single as two more runs came home. Sydney Rawlings once again closed the deal with a quick seventh for the 7-4 victory.

UP NEXT- Colorado Christian will continue RMAC play at home on March 26 with a doubleheader against CSU Pueblo starting at noon.
