LAKEWOOD,CO- The Cougars rode an 11 game win streak into their doubleheader against CSU Pueblo on Saturday. Late heroics helped Colorado Christian extend that streak to 13 games as they took down the Thunderwolves 3-1 and 4-3.
GAME ONE
CSU Pueblo struck first in game one with a solo homer in the top of the third, but that was all they would get the entire game. The Cougars responded in their half of the third, starting with a game-tying RBI double from Kenzie Middleton. Sydney Reamer followed that up with a double to score two more and take a 3-1 lead.
Alexis Hamilton dazzled throughout the game, pitching a complete game with just one run allowed for her 10th victory of the season. Only four hits were allowed and she added to her strikeout tally with four.
GAME TWO
Game two found the Cougars in a position they have not often found themselves in this season. Taylor Strupp pitched efficiently and kept the offense for Colorado Christian off balance for the majority of the game. A two inning homer in the first inning gave CSU Pueblo early momentum as they looked to split with the Cougars on the day.
The first run came across in the bottom of the fifth when Sydney Reamer smacked a double to score Sami Edwards. However, the Thunderwolves regained the two-run lead in the sixth with an RBI single. The Cougars faced their last three outs in the bottom of the seventh down 3-1, but they did not flinch.
After Samaria Roope was hit by a pitch with one out, Kenzie Middleton singled to put two runners on. A Sami Edwards single loaded the bases, and the gap thinned to 3-2 after Reamer walked. Taylor Olsen stepped up with the bases loaded and promptly ripped a single up the middle for a two RBI walkoff hit to give her team the thrilling 4-3 victory.
Abrie Castillo picked up her ninth victory with a complete game that included four strikeouts and just three runs allowed.
UP NEXT- Colorado Christian will close the series with CSU Pueblo with a doubleheader on March 27 starting at 11 a.m.
