Clutch Hitting Pushes Win Streak to 15 for Colorado Christian

LAKEWOOD,CO- The Cougars faced off against CSU Pueblo for a second straight doubleheader on Sunday. The offense erupted for an 8-0 run-rule victory in game one, and Sami Edwards came up huge in the late innings of the second contest to lead her team to a 3-2 win.

GAME ONE
The offense jumped on the Thunderwolves from the start in the first contest. Taylor Olsen picked up an RBI groundout to start the scoring, and Miki Berg doubled home a second run. Kayla Middleton then scored Berg on a single as the first inning closed with a 3-0 lead.

The Cougars bats stayed hot in the second inning, as they quickly loaded the bases. Kaitlynn Martinez scored on an error to make it 4-0 as the bases remained loaded. Taylor Olsen then ended all doubt about the outcome, blasting a grand slam to center field to push the lead to 8-0.

The two teams remained scoreless from there as Colorado Christian finished off the 8-0 run-rule victory. Alexis Hamilton snagged her 11th win of the year with a complete game shutout on just four hits allowed and seven strikeouts.

GAME TWO
The Cougars faced a tough challenge in pitcher Taylor Strupp in game two, and the offense was stymied throughout a good portion of the game. Abrie Castillo gave up two runs in the first inning but was excellent from then on. After several big escapes by Castillo aided by her defense, the game headed to the bottom of the seventh with the Thunderwolves ahead 2-0.

Kenzie Middleton led off the inning with a single to bring up Sami Edwards. Edwards came through in the clutch, blasting a two-run homer to left centerfield as she tied the game for her team at two apiece. After no runs scored from either team in the eighth and none from CSU Pueblo in the ninth, Edwards decided it was time to go home. Kenzie Middleton again singled, and Edwards ripped a triple down the left field line to secure a thrilling 3-2 victory and improve the winning streak to an impressive 15 games. The triple now puts Edwards at eight on the year, a Colorado Christian single season record.

Castillo picked up her 10th win of the year with a nine inning outing with just two runs allowed on three strikeouts.

UP NEXT- Colorado Christian will now head to Regis for an important four-game series starting on April 2 at noon.
