Colorado Christian played a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon against the Colorado School of Mines in Golden. Mines took game one, but the Cougars battled back and secured the victory in game two to split the day.

Game 1: Â Â Â Â Â Â CSM came out of the gates swinging and was able to score at will against the Cougars early and often. The strong offensive output from the Orediggers gave them a 14-0 lead after five innings of play.

Colorado Christian looked to get things going as they entered the seventh and final inning of the first game. CCU avoided being shut out thanks to back-to-back doubles from
Luke Thompson and
Zack Medina. For Medina, it was his first double and his first RBI of the season.

Luke Thompson had a good game as he finished with two of the five total hits for the team in the game.

Game 2:Â Â Â Â Â Â The Cougars came out much more focused in the second game of the day as they were able to bounce back thanks in part to a strong showing on the mound.
Harrison Nation got the start in the game and threw four innings and gave up five hits and two runs, both runs were unearned. Nation was followed by
Sawyer Shepherd who worked one and a third innings allowing three runs while striking out two. The final outs were collected by CCU closer
JC Watne who allowed three hits, zero runs and struck out one.

The Cougars got the offense rolling in the second inning which began with
Jordan Medina drawing a walk.
Luke Thompson followed Medina with a double to center field to push runners to second and third.
Cole Douglass later drew a walk to load the bases for CCU with only one out.
Major Maydon got the Cougars on the board as he had an RBI groundout to give the team a 1-0 lead.
Zack Medina took one for the team as he was hit by a pitch which once again loaded the bases and brought up Frankie Shearn. Shearn delivered a bases clearing triple to extend the lead to 4-0.

Leading off the third inning for Colorado Christian,
Wyatt Crenshaw blasted his team leading fifth homerun over the right field fence to continue to apply the pressure to CSM. Mines was finally able to get on the scoreboard in the third inning as they tallied two runs to cut the Cougar lead down to just three.

CCU pulled away in the fourth inning as they were able to cross the plate four times in the inning.
Cole Douglass and
Major Maydon both singled to begin the inning. Frankie Shearn delivered another RBI single and
Wyatt Crenshaw hit a sacrifice fly to score the seventh run.
Jordan Medina delivered the big hit of the inning as he doubled to left field which scored two more runs and give CCU a 9-2 lead.

The Orediggers tried to mount a rally by scoring three runs in the bottom of the sixth, but CCU added one more in the last inning to secure the victory by a final score of 10-5.

After splitting the doubleheader Colorado Christian now has a record of 7-16 overall and 5-6 in conference play. CCU will take on the Colorado School of Mines in the series finale on Sunday afternoon. First pitch will be 12PM MST.
