The Colorado Christian men's and women's track teams took their talents to California to compete in the Bryan Clay Invitational hosted by Azusa Pacific University. In a deep field, the Cougars had several impressive showings by multiple athletes including two runners on each the men's and women's team that ran NCAA Provisional times which qualified them for a chance to compete at the NCAA Championships later in the year.
Â
Women's:Â Â Â Â Shannon King broke a school record and ran a Provisional NCAA time in the 1500M race as she ran a time of 4:31.72.
Michelle Kuipers also cemented her name in the school record book in the 1500M as she ran a time of 4:33.14 which is good enough for third in school history.
Â
Paige Tack also wanted to get in on the fun and put her name in the record book, so she ran a school record time in the 5000M race. She ran a NCAA Provisional time of 16:55.57 so she is now qualified for a chance to compete at the NCAA Championships later in the year. Tack obliterated the old school record by nearly a minute, and she becomes the first female Cougar to run under the 17-minute mark for the event.
Â
Men's:Â Â Â Â Tyler Bradley competed in both the 100M and 200M events and did well in each of them as he ran a time of 10.94 in the 100M and 21.76 in the 200M.
Jeremy Miller competed in the 1500M and did very well as his time of 3:47.69 was good enough to be a Provisional NCAA time so he has qualified for a chance to compete at the Championships later in the year.
Â
The distance runners had a great meet as two more Provisional times were achieved in the 5000M race.
Trent Cochran and
Isaac Russo both had great races as Cochran finished with a time of 14:07.31, and Russo ran a time of 14:18.70. Cochran and Russo now sit at the top of the CCU record books for the 5000M event.
Â
Head coach
Jon Poag spoke about the great performances after the meet as he said, "I am really excited about the way our athletes competed this week. We had some big breakthroughs and gained a lot of valuable insight on how our season is shaping up heading into the postseason."
