Colorado Christian ventured out to Greeley, CO on Tuesday afternoon for a mid-week matchup against the University of Northern Colorado. A rough opening to the game spelled disaster for the Cougars as they fell behind by a large margin early in the game and were unable to battle back into it. CCU eventually fell by a final score of 18-7.
Â
After being held scoreless in the first inning, CCU allowed three runs in the bottom half as UNC jumped ahead early on. However, the Cougars were able to battle right back and get even in the top of the second inning as they were able to take advantage of some defensive miscues from the Bears.
Major Maydon was able to put the pressure on as he hustled down the line on a ball hit to third base which forced an error from the third basemen to allow Maydon to reach first safely.
Kade Carney followed that with a double to right which allowed Maydon to reach third.
Zack Medina singled and again the Cougars took advantage of another error which allowed Maydon and Carney to score the first two runs for CCU and pushed Medina all the way to third. The Cougars evened the score with the next batter when
Aaron Morgan hit a sacrifice fly to centerfield which was deep enough to score
Zack Medina.
Â
The bottom of the second inning was an inning that turned out to be a nightmare for Colorado Christian. After recording the first two outs of the inning right away, UNC went on to have 13 straight batters reach base and scored 12 runs to take a 15-3 lead after two innings of play.
Â
In the top of the third,
Jordan Medina showed his former team what they were missing as he blasted a solo homerun deep to centerfield. After UNC scored one more in the fourth inning, the Cougars also notched a single run in the top of the fifth when
Wyatt Crenshaw scored on a passed ball. CCU scored their sixth run in the sixth inning as
Wyatt Crenshaw singled home
Caden Walton.
Â
UNC tallied single runs in both the sixth and the seventh innings, which gave them the 18-6 lead heading into the final two innings of play. CCU scored the last run of the game in the eighth inning as
Wyatt Crenshaw once again scored thanks to a passed ball.
Â
The Cougars record now sits at 12-25 on the season. They will be back home for their next games as they square off against CSU-Pueblo. The series kicks off on Friday with a doubleheader. The first game is scheduled for 12PM MST, with game two tentatively scheduled for 3PM.
