Cougars Taken Down by Thunderwolves

Colorado Christian wrapped up their series in Pueblo on Sunday morning as they took on CSU-Pueblo. The Thunderwolves got the best of CCU as they came away with the victory by a final score of 12-7. The Cougars finish the weekend going 2-2 as they won one and lost one to both Metro State and CSU-Pueblo.

CSU-Pueblo jumped out to an early lead as they scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning. CCU looked like they were going to get on the board in the second inning as they were able to load the bases with only one out, but they were unable to score as the Thunderwolves were able to maneuver out of danger. CSU was able to add to their lead in the third inning as they tallied two more runs to take a 4-0 lead after three innings.

Colorado Christian chipped away at the deficit beginning in the fourth inning on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Major Maydon which scored Luke Thompson who had tripled to lead off the inning. In the sixth inning, CCU continued their comeback efforts as Boedy Flores singled through the left side of the infield to score Caden Walton who had singled earlier in the inning. That cut the Thunderwolves lead down to just two. However, that was as close as the Cougars would get as CSU-Pueblo scored two more in the sixth, and three in the seventh to take a 9-2 lead heading into the final two innings of play.

The Cougars tried to get back into it as they took were able to trim the lead by scoring three runs. CSU got those runs back in their half of the eighth inning as they also scored three runs. In the ninth inning, Major Maydon continued his offensive surge he has been on lately as he crushed a two-run homerun to right field. It was unfortunately not enough as they fell by a final score of 12-7.

Despite the loss, it was still a successful weekend for Colorado Christian whose record now sits at 9-19 overall and 7-9 in conference play. The Cougars return home for their next series as they will square off against Adams State. The series begins with a doubleheader on Friday April 8th. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00PM MST. Come out to All Star Park in Lakewood to cheer on CCU.
