LAKEWOOD, CO- The Cougars began a four-game series against Adams State with a doubleheader at All Star Park on Friday. After falling in the first contest, Colorado Christian rallied late for a walkoff victory in game two.
GAME ONE
The Grizzlies jumped ahead early, plating a run in the first with an RBI single. Another RBI single in the third made it 2-0, but the Cougars responded right away. Caden Walton brought the deficit to one with a single before Wyatt Crenshaw uncorked a massive three-run homer to right field to snag a 4-2 lead for his team.
Adams State punched back in the fifth, blasting a grand slam to take back the lead 6-4. An insurance homer in the seventh gave the Grizzlies a 7-4 victory in game one.Â
GAME TWO
Similar to the first contest, Adams State jumped ahead with a sacrifice fly in the first to make it 1-0. Colorado Christian came right back with a run to tie it on a Jordan Medina single as it stood at one apiece heading out of the first.
A pair of runs for the Grizzlies in the third made it 3-1 as they looked to contain the Cougars offense and hold a lead. After Frankie Shearn tripled in the fifth Crenshaw ripped a triple of his own to cut the deficit to 3-2 heading into the final innings.
With three outs remaining to mount a rally in the bottom of the seventh, the Cougars immediately got to work. Kade Carney led off with a single, and Walton and Shearn got on with a walk and bunt single to load the bases. Crenshaw battled through an at bat and ultimately was hit by a pitch to bring home the tying run. Medina then came up and delivered the walkoff blow, chopping a ball over the head of the shortstop to give his team a huge 4-3 victory.
