CCU Falls in DH at Metro State

Colorado Christian took to the field for their final regular season series of the year as they squared off against Metro State for a doubleheader on Friday evening. The Cougars battled in both games but were unable to come away with a victory in either one as they lost game one by a final score of 12-3, and game two by a final score of 15-5. CCU is looking to finish the weekend strong as they still have an outside chance to make the RMAC tournament depending on how the games around the conference play out. Metro currently is in strong possession as they are in second place in the RMAC and looking to finish strong to possibly overtake Mesa for the regular season title.

Game One:     The first game of the day was a nine inning game and CCU got started off on the right foot as they jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the first inning. Caden Walton opened the first inning with a double to left field. Walton was driven home thanks to a single from Wyatt Crenshaw back up the middle. Jordan Medina followed with another single, and the Cougars took advantage of a defensive miscue from the Roadrunners which allowed Crenshaw to score all the way from first and put the Cougars up 2-0. Gabe Ramos promptly doubled the Cougars lead as he blasted a homerun deep to right field to extend the lead to 4-0 after one inning of play.

Metro got back into the game in the second inning as they were able to score three runs and cut into the CCU lead. Colorado Christian added to their lead in the fourth inning after Wyatt Crenshaw collected his second RBI single of the day which scored Eli Ludwig who had singled to begin the inning.

Unfortunately, Metro put together some big innings and their pitchers were able to hold the Cougar offense scoreless throughout the remainder of the game. Metro grabbed the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning after they scored four runs to take a 7-5 lead. They scored six more in the seventh inning, and two more runs in the eighth to secure the 15-5 victory.

Game Two:     This game, Metro State was able to jump out to an early lead as they tallied three runs on three hits in the bottom of the first inning to stake themselves with the early 3-0 lead. That is what the score remained until the Cougars battled back in the third inning. Aaron Morgan opened the third inning with a single up the middle, and then stole second base. Morgan came around to score on an Eli Ludwig single. Wyatt Crenshaw followed with a double down the right field line pushing Ludwig to third. With two runners in scoring position Jordan Medina delivered as he singled into left field allowing both Ludwig and Crenshaw to score and tied the game up 3-3.

For the second game in a row, CCU was a victim of big innings from the Roadrunners offense. Metro scored twice in the fourth inning, and then pulled away after scoring seven runs in the fifth inning to pull ahead 12-3 which ended up being the final score.

With the results today, the Cougars record now sits at 16-31 overall, and 12-18 in conference play. CCU wraps up their regular season action on Saturday with another doubleheader at Metro State. First pitch for game one is scheduled for 1PM MST.
