Colorado Christian Net First Win on the Year Over Eastern New Mexico

LAKEWOOD, CO- The Cougars kicked off their second competition of the season with a morning match against the Greyhounds from Eastern New Mexico. Led by an early goal, Colorado Christian held on for the 1-0 victory for their first win on the young season.

HOW IT HAPPENED- From the kickoff the Cougars offense made a strong push on the Greyhounds goal. They were rewarded in the 14th minute when Capri Dewing made a couple of moves past the ENMU defense along the back line and crossed the ball into the middle. The cross took a deflection off a Greyhound defender before Parker Sweet slotted it home for the goal.

Each team had several shots on goal, but none that challenged the keeper too much in the first half. Heading to the break the Cougars held a 1-0 lead as they looked to stave off an equalizer.

The Greyhounds began to apply more pressure in the second period as several shots were taken on goal. Each time Ashleigh Maguire and the defense was up to the challenge, denying ENMU the tying goal they so desperately searched for.

The pace slowed down a bit towards the end of regulation as each team traded possession many times. In the end, Colorado Christian denied an equalizer and came away with their first win of the year by a score of 1-0.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:

  • The Cougars were the aggressor, taking 14 shots with six of them being on goal

  • The ENMU keeper made five saves on the day to keep the score close
