Cougars Downed by Late Goal Against Western Oregon

LAKEWOOD,CO- Colorado Christian played their third straight home competition to open the season against Western Oregon on Thursday. The two teams battled throughout, but a late goal from the Wolves gave them a 1-0 victory in the end.

HOW IT HAPPENED- To begin the game, Western Oregon was on the front foot, pushing hard offensively to score an early goal. However, the Cougars were up for the challenge, time and time again repelling the attack with the strong backline of Allie Hotz, Jensen Leivo and Kiley Connery

Saige Stock provided a spark with a shot on goal, but the Wolves keeper made the save as the two teams battled to a 0-0 tie at the break.

Colorado Christian found their rhythm on offense more in the second half, immediately showing more pressure on the ball looking to create turnovers in the attacking third. Capri Dewing created some space for a shot that nearly found the back of the net, but the Western Oregon goalkeeper made a great save to deflect it away from her goal.

The best look for Colorado Christian came in the 69th minute. Stock and Dewing comboed along the left side before Stock ripped a shot that just glanced off the crossbar and over the goal on a near miss.

The game winner was scored for the Wolves in the 76th minute as Leeci SNyder took a shot from the right side of the box that ricocheted off of several players before finding the back of the net. The Cougars pushed hard for an equalizer, earning several corners in the closing minutes, but nothing quite made its way into the goal as they fell by a final score of 1-0.
