CCU traveled out to Fayette, IA as they squared off against Upper Iowa University on Thursday night. It was a hard fought game throughout, but an unfortunate own goal decided the game as Upper Iowa went on to win 1-0.
Â
The Cougars and Peacocks came out with some intensity to begin the game as both teams were fighting for position back and forth throughout the opening of the half. The first half belonged mainly to each sides defensive squads as the offensives struggled to get any momentum built up. It was an evenly matched first half as both teams each had three shots and collected six fouls each.
Â
The opening score of the game came in the 17
th minute of the first half when a stroke of bad luck hit CCU. The Cougs had possession of the ball in their own end of the field when a defender attempted to pass back to the goaltender, but unfortunately it was not seen initially by the goalie, so the ball went into the back of the net for the first score of the game as Upper Iowa took the 1-0 lead thanks to an own goal by CCU.
Â
The second half possession was dominated by CCU as they attempted to get back into the game and even the score. Despite the fleury of attacks on offense, the Cougars were unable to get the equalizing goal into the back of the net and fell by the final score of 1-0.
Â
After a day off, Colorado Christian will be back in action for their next game on Saturday September 3
rd when they will be traveling to St. Cloud, Minnesota to face off against St. Cloud State University at 5PM MST.
