TAMPA, FL- The Cougars closed their roadtrip to Florida on Sunday with a competition against University of Tampa. Colorado Christian came out strong with an early goal, but the hosts responded with two goals of their own for a 2-1 victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED- The Cougars offense got to work fast, firing a number of shots to pressure the Tampa keeper. Their efforts were rewarded in the 24th minute when Capri Dewing fired home a ball from Kinley Sanders for the 1-0 lead. The Spartans responded, scoring the equalizer in the 27th on a penalty kick. Dewing nearly gave her team the lead back late in the half but a save from the Tampa goalie sent the two teams to the break tied at one.
The Spartans started on the front foot in the second half, pressuring with a flurry of shots to force several saves from Cougars keeper Ashleigh Maguire. They broke through in the 66th minute to take the 2-1 lead. The Cougars threatened to tie with several late shots, but in the end Tampa claimed the win by a final score of 2-1.
