CCU Loses in Final Minutes to UCCS

On Sunday afternoon, Colorado Christian made the trip to Colorado Springs to take on the University of Colorado Colorado Springs in the final non-conference game of the early season for men's soccer. It was a hard-fought match throughout as the game, but UCCS scored late to take the win.

The Cougars were determined to finish non-conference play with a victory against UCCS on Sunday and they did everything they could to make that happen in the first half. The two sides exchanged shots back and forth, but neither team was able to get one into the back of the net so the game went into halftime still knotted at 0-0.

The second half began much like the first half, as neither team could find any momentum on the offensive side of the ball. With just over five minutes remaining in the game, UCCS scored the first goal of the game to out them up 1-0. UCCS added another goal with just over a minute remaining to seal the game and give them the 2-0 victory over CCU.

Head coach Brad Camp spoke about the game after saying, "Our performance today gives me a lot of hop. The boys battled extremely hard and followed the game plan to a T. We lost the game in the final moments, but we need to score when we have our chances. All in all, I was very encouraged by what I saw today, and I am excited about the prospect of starting to win some of these games moving forward."

With the loss, the Cougars record now sits at 4-2-2 on the season. They will be back in action next weekend as RMAC conference play opens up beginning with a pair of home matches beginning Friday September 23rd when they face off against Fort Lewis. That game will begin at 1:30PM MST and will take place at Trailblazer Stadium in Lakewood, CO. Colorado Christian finishes the weekend with another home matchup against Adams State on Sunday September 25th at 2:30PM MST.
