The Colorado Christian men's soccer team took to the field on Friday afternoon as they squared off against Fort Lewis College to open up RMAC conference play. CCU accomplished something that they hadn't done in over 20 years as they were able to come away with a 3-2 victory. The win marks the first win for the Cougars against Fort Lewis since 9/13/2002 and puts an end to the 35-game losing streak against the Skyhawks.
Â
The game was a back and forth battle to begin, with each team doing their best to gain the advantage. Then, in the 23
rd   minute the Cougars took advantage of an opportunity on the offensive end as
Miguel Fonseca delivered a perfect pass to a streaking AJ Guameda who shot it past the FLC goalkeeper and into the back of the net to put CCU up 1-0. The lead didn't last very long as Fort Lewis tied things up six minutes later.
Â
With the score tied 1-1, it appeared that the game was going to be tied heading into the half, but CCU had other plans. With just 10 seconds remaining, CCU received a corner kick.
Dumisani Luthayi raced to the corner and quickly got set. With the seconds ticking away, Luthayi delievered a pass towards the box where
Gabe Roloff was waiting and headed the ball into the back of the net with just 1.9 seconds remaining in the half to give the Cougars a 2-1 lead at the break.
Â
Colorado Christian built onto their momentum in the 67
th minute when
Lucca Casci scored his second goal of the season and put CCU up 3-1 with just over 20 minutes to play in the game. Fort Lewis refused to give up however as they scored their second goal of the game to draw back within one with 12 minutes left.
Â
The play of the game came with just 15 seconds left in regulation. Fort Lewis was awarded a free kick deep in the Cougars zone, and the Skyhawks sent a shot hurling towards the net, but CCU keeper
Max Collingwood made a diving save and knocked the ball away as the rest of time expired and preserved the victory for CCU.

Head coach
Brad Camp spoke after the game about the victory and said, "I am so proud of this group of guys. They are amazing at executing the game plan that the other coaches and I have put together, and they work so hard to get the job done right. Every guy on this team has an impact and they all work so hard and are accountable for each other. They push each other to be the best they can be. We know what kind of program and the success that Fort Lewis has had in the past, and how they have always seemingly had our number, that is why this win today was so special for us to get it done against such a talented program."
Â
The win improves the Cougars record to 5-2-2 on the year, and 1-0 in conference play. They will be back in action on Sunday afternoon as they will take on Adams State. The home game is at Trailblazer Stadium in Lakewood, CO and will begin at 2:30PM MST.
