LAKEWOOD,CO- The Cougars took on a very game Adams State squad for the second time this month on Sunday, this time in RMAC competition. With the seniors on the team being honored after the matches' conclusion, Colorado Christian made sure to make it a joyous occasion, securing a gritty 1-0 victory to improve to 2-0 in conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED- The Cougars applied many threats early on as Miguel Fonseca, Eli Donaho and Caiden Dixon got off quick shots that just missed. The shots continued to come as Adrian Diez and Grant Roloff missed on close looks as well. Gabe Roloff and Arthur Santana joined in on the shot barrage, as Roloff had several shots on target saved. Zane Jacobson got off the last shot of the half but could not connect as CCU dominated play but could not quite execute offensively to head to the break tied at zero.
Lucca Casci started to make an impact in the second half, firing a shot that went off the top of the post and out as he narrowly missed the back of the net. Fonseca hit off the post minutes later as it felt like the Cougars were on the verge of breaking through at any moment. Tobi Osifodunrin forced a save from the Grizzlies keeper as CCU continued to pressure. On the other end, Max Collingwood made an impressive save to keep things knotted at zero and keep hopes alive for a victory. The 72nd minute was the breakthrough the Cougars needed, as Avery Hipps played a long ball from the left side of the field into the box, and Caleb Dodge controlled it perfectly and fired it near post for the lead. Diez came close moments later to a brace, but his shot went off the right post and glanced out. Colorado Christian did an excellent job the rest of the match as the defense held Adams State to just one shot on goal in the second half as they secured a big 1-0 win to remain unbeaten through two RMAC games.Â
