Cougars Down Adams State 2-0 in RMAC Home Opener

LAKEWOOD,CO- The Cougars returned home from a long road trip for their RMAC home opener against Adams State on Friday. Led by a pair of goals in the first half, Colorado Christian held the Grizzlies at bay, securing a 2-0 shutout victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED- The Cougars began the offensive pressure early, getting off several shots in the first ten minutes of play. In the 11th minute, Skylee Deladurantaye took a pass from Capri Dewing on the left edge of the box and fired it past the reach of the keeper to give her team the early lead. Colorado Christian was not done, as they continued the barrage on the Adams State keeper. A ball played over the top forced the keeper to come out, and a collision with Dewing secured a penalty for the Cougars. Saige Stock stepped up and calmly drilled a shot to the bottom right corner for a 2-0 lead for CCU. The score stood there until the break as Colorado Christian held all the momentum.

The Grizzlies offense showed more pressure in the second half, but time and time again Alana Lopp was up for the challenge with several key saves. Stock and Dewing had several more shots in the half as they looked to push the lead further, but the Adams State goalie was strong with several saves of her own. As time winded down the Cougars controlled the ball well, not allowing any real danger and putting the finishing touches on a 2-0 win in their RMAC home opener.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:

  • The Cougars outshot the Grizzlies 15-5
  • Lopp secured five saves for her team to preserve the clean sheet
  • Fouls were mostly even, with 15 charged to CCU and 12 to Adams State
