LAKEWOOD, CO- Colorado Christian returned home to take on Black Hills State Friday evening. A strong overall effort led to a sweep for the Cougars as they improved to 5-2 in RMAC play.
HOW IT HAPPENED- The offense was clicking on all cylinders early, as Lilly Woods started with a kill followed by an ace to get the scoring going. Libby Goodman picked up several kills and Abigail Newell and Renee Phillips slammed a pair home to take an early 6-1 lead. They continued to roll from there as Jessa Rose picked up consecutive aces. Several more Goodman kills pushed the Cougars further ahead and they closed the set out 25-12.\
Set two was more evenly played as the two teams fought their way to a tie at 10 apiece. Goodman and Phillips picked up kills and an Izzy Jones ace had the Cougar lead at 14-10. A Jones kill made it 23-17, and CCU took the set 25-20.Â
The early stages of set three began much like the set before, with the teams fighting to a 9-9 tie. Just like before, the Cougars took over at key points of the set, including a four-point run capped by a Newell kill for the 18-11 lead. The Yellowjackets refused to go down easily, climbing back to within 18-16. However, Colorado Christian responded with kills from Woods and Overson and Jones closed the match with an ace for the 25-21 set win.Â
