The Cougars were looking to get back on track in the RMAC conference as they squared off against Adams State University who came into the matchup over the weekend with a less than stellar 3-12 record which they were able to exploit throughout the matchup.
Â
The Cougars began the first half looking to exert their dominance which is exactly what they ended up doing as they took a lead into the halftime break. A trio of Cougars led the way in scoring for CCU in the first half, as
DJ McDonald finished with eight points, while
Isaiah Alonzo and
Noah Kon each finished with six points each. The Cougars were able to nurse a one point lead into the break as they led 28-27 at halftime break.
Â

Kolby Walker from Adams State was the only player in double figures in the first half as he tallied 11 points in the first 20 minutes of play.
Â
DJ McDonald started the second half on fire as he quickly gave the Cougs the lead thanks to his sharp shooting from downtown as he nailed back to back three pointers to give the Cougars a three point lead 38-35 a few minutes into the second half. The first part of the second half was controlled by the Cougars as they jumped out to a 13 point lead with just over nine minutes left in the game 54-41 after
Isaiah Alonzo hit a jumper to give him 10 points in the game.
Â
The Cougs extended their hot start to the second half and continued it throughout the final 20 minutes of play.
Maro Egodotaye emphasized the strong second half as he hammered home a dunk with two minutes left in the game which gave CCU a 70-54 lead which they were able to hold onto for the remainder of the game to finish out the victory by a final score of 72-59.
Â
DJ McDonald led the way for the Cougars as he finished the game with 21 points on 7-12 shooting from the floor and was 5-8 from downtown.
Isaiah Alonzo also played a big factor in the game as he finished with a double-double 16 points and 11 rebounds to go along with five assists as he facilitated the offense as well. Also finishing in double figures was
Noah Kon who finished 2-3 from the floor and a perfect 8-8 from the free throw line.
